Check Engine Light

Yeah, I have 1996 Ranger supercab 2wd with the 4.0 V6 engine and manual transmission. The "check engine light" came on so I took it to my mechanic and he scanned and found out that the rpm's exceeded the vehicle's internal limit. He did not change anything and cleared the code in the hopes that the code was a one-time thing or a fluke. I got the truck back and the "check engine light" was dormant for a few days. It did not remain that way, though. The light came on again so I took it back to my mechanic and waited for an answer. He scanned it again and found a different trouble code that had nothing to do with the rpm's. The code indicated that the EGR valve needed replacement. So my mechanic replaced the EGR valve, cleared the codes from the computer and gave the truck back to me today. At first it was fine but after about 20 minutes the "check engine light" came back on. I tried to call Ford and see if they could offer any assistance but as most of you probably know, dealerships want you to bring the vehicle in because they don't want to speculate about your problem. Sometime in the next few days I plan to call my mechanic but before I do I would like to see if anyone can offer me some assistance. The truck is completely stock save the tires - which were upgraded from P195/70-14 to P235/75 r 15.

Thanks,

John
