What do people consider essential gauges?
Engine oil pressure/temp Auto tranny temp Starter battery voltage Engine temp
What else?
I have a total of 7 measurements possible; I'm trying to fill them up with useful info.
Power Steering temp? Auto tranny pressure? Battery current draw?
This is for a vehicle that is fairly heavily loaded - an E150, 5.4L V8, nearly 6,500#, mostly highway driving.

A "boost gauge" or MAP gauge would be useful too. If you're considering diesel applications, a trans temp and exhaust gas temp would be in order.

Tranny and coolant temps I would consider most useful, considering I do a lot of hauling. A tach is a must have. I hate it when the manufacturers leave out the tach as an option. The oil pressure gauge on my truck functions just like an idiot light. I would have considered an oil pressure gauge to be essential but I've lived with it all these years so... I havn't found the voltage gauge to be of much use. When my alternator failed the voltage gauge read only slightly less than normal. I couldn't tell from the gauge that something was wrong with the charging system. Luckily the idiot light also turned on.
I've heard an EGT gauge can be useful.
