F250: Running on vegetable oil and/or biodiesel + gen'l questions

I am close to choosing the F250 as my platform for running on biodiesel and/or vegetable oil. I understand the International 7.3 is a solid engine.

The book from which I got my information, "From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank" (Joshua Tickle), seems to think seals, hoses, injectors, and the injector pumps might suffer from the use of biodiesel and suggest the use of VITON seals. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please answer using my e-mail: snipped-for-privacy@aol.com

Thanks, Mike Goodman

Since you addressed a public forum, I prefer to answer that way too. The Biodiesel Standard is ASTM D 6751 For regular Diesel fuel, the ASTM standard is ASTM D 975. All engine and fuel injection manufacturers design their engines around ASTM D 975 (Regular Diesel ) In December of 2001, ASTM approved the standard for biodiesel, with the new designation of D-6751. This standard covers pure biodiesel (B100), for blending with petrodiesel in levels only up to 20% by volume. Higher levels of biodiesel (more then 20%) are allowed only on a case-by-case basis after discussion with the individual engine company.

Good for you! Private response requests seem selfish to me, and are contrary to the spirit that makes newsgroups work. Texas Parts Guy

You seem to know a good bit about the specifics of this...

I also have an F250 Powerstroke and have wondered about running biodeisel in it.

Does what you wrote Mike imply that it is OK to add vegetable oil to the tank without modifications to the engine as long as the ratio is less than

1:5? Or are mods neccessary even for this light mixture?

Thanks, John
