Outside Temp Gauge off by 20 degrees

Hello, lately I have noticed that the temp gauge on the ceiling of the truck is off by at least 20 degress. Compass seems to be giving the right direction, but how do you recalibrate the temp? Thanks, Mike

in my 2001 f150, there is a small cylinder (might be 1/2 length of cigar) in front of the radiator center mount...maybe the contacts are corroded?
