VIN Check on a possible stolen trruck...

Hello Guys, My brother in law is looking to buy a used Ford Truck... however we think that the deal is to good to be true (Cheap truck recent model low price).

I was wondering if anybody has a carfax account and could help me out searching the history of the truck just to see if it isn't a Lemon or Salvage or if the truck hasnt been stolen.

The VIN number is as follows:

1FTRX17L7YKA82107

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you enter the VIN in the free carfax records box?

If it's that important to you pay the $20 for a single report or $25 for unlimited reports for 1 month.

I entered the VIN without paying and received this report:

VIN 1FTRX17L7YKA82107 Year/Make/Model: 2000 FORD F150 Body Style: 4 DOOR EXTENDED CAB PICKUP Engine Type: 5.4L V8 PFI SOHC 16V Manufactured In: UNITED STATES Search Results: 0 records found in our database

I actually paid the 20 bucks for the complete report, but it came out with 0 records... now, does this mean that the truck is legit?...any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised at the good price your getting. My bro-in-law said that by him, a dealership was refusing to take SUV's and Trucks as trade -ins as they can't give them away (of course, translated it means that it isn't worth it to the dealer) as they have had so many of what they call here "yuppie's truckie" (people who don't need trucks, but just have them to move a potted plant and feel big and tough about it) dumping them because of gas prices....You can pick up some really good deals on used trucks now!

BTW, OT, I saw in the news that Iran feels the price of oil is still way to low and that the fair value should be $120 a barrel and they are pushing for that to happen within a year or two. If I paid .99 cents a gallon when it was $25 a barrel, then $2 at $50 a barrel, now $3 at $75 a barrel, we'll be looking at $5 a gallon at $120 a barrel. That equates to $125 to fill up a

25 gallon tank on my F150....ouch. Think that'll effect the world economic growth just a tad?? <sarcasm> ;-)

Normally, you get a couple of records, like where the truck was pdi'd, when it was originally titled, etc.

The way I read this one, the VIN is incorrect.

It means Carfax has no information on that VIN number, which leads me to believe as Spdloader does the VIN you provided is incorrect.

You might double check the VIN and/or contact your local Police department or Licensing bureau and see if they can help you.

Some of the oil countries are at least allies in business. I don't think they'd go along with that.

Why not simply ask the local cop shop if the vehicle is stolen? Odds are that it isn't stolen, it's a salvage. For $25.00 you can run all of the Carfax reports you want for either 60 or 90 days. If you are car shopping, then you probably need the service anyway.

$25 for Unlimited reports for 30 days, not 60-90. Here is part of the agreement:

"I agree to pay a one-time charge of $24.99 (USD), plus applicable sales tax, according to my card issuer agreement. This 30 day Unlimited CARFAX Reports Plan is valid for 30 days from the date the first report is run, and is intended for my personal use only."

OP also stated in a follow post that he paid $20 for a single report on the vehicle and there were no records.

It is a "valid" VIN in that the number passes the check digit test and the Ford VIN decoder spits out a description (see

formatting link
). But it is unvalid as far as Carfax is concerned. This makes me wonder if the vehicle was ever registered in the US. Carfax collects data from state DMVs and other sources (dealer records for instance). It is highly unusual for a retail sale not to show up in a Carfax report. I'd exercise caution.

I also ran the VIN and got nothing back in carfax. Carfax always shows something for a vehicle even service info from dealers in some instances. For carfax to state that their "database currently contains no records for this vehicle" is highly unusual.

I would not only avoid this vehicle like the plague but report the individual to the police as possibly selling a stolen vehicle.

first thing I would check is if the guy has a clear title on the vehicle, and if the VIN numbers match, if they do, there should be no problem. if the vehicle is stolen, there is no way he will have a clear title on the vehicle. this is like a no brainier...duh?

Has it occured to no one that CarFax just might have a glitch? All things are possible....

Not that the vehicle isn't suspicious, but still... things can happen.

I personally think that having the PD check it out is your best bet. Or run the number though DMV and see what they come up with. Tell them your story and have them give it a look.

Check it for matching numbers all around. Usually, if your instincts are setting off alarms, there is a reason for it.

Of course it occurs to all of us. That goes without saying, and so nobody said it. When you're shopping for a car, you don't have to do a bunch of detective work if you don't want to. It's a choice. It doesn't matter what the problem is to the OP. He's just car shopping, and so he can just choose to look elsewhere.

First off Joe, I don't see where you contributed to this topic, other than jumping in and insulting the lady.

Second, you were only speaking for yourself. Don't dare to assume you are the mouthpiece for anyone but yourself. I don't need you speaking for me.

Third, You owe Kate an apology, she was simply addressing the fact that some of the opinions in the thread were overboard in suggesting the OP alert the cops.
