I don't know if this will even give you close to enough information to makea guess but I figured I would post anyway. 95 F150 6 cyl 4WD. I wasdriving down the highway about 70 then all of a sudden the oil gauge wentbelow low and the engine started ticking and all engine power (torque??) waslost. I was able to drive 55 to the next exit and was able to drive to mymechanic but it took a while for the engine to pickup speed when starting atlights and stop signs. It almost felt like the transmission was slipping andthen the engine would kick in but with very little power. Anyone like tophantom a guess? My mechanic isn't open today due to the bad weather hereso he hasn't looked at it yet.

I'll phantom a guess - your oil pump croaked and you seized the motor.When the oil light goes on....STOP.When the engine starts making funny noises....STOP.If you can't find the source of either of these two problems, tow it.You may be in the market for a new engine.

Hi, Sounds like you lost a crank or rod bearing. These are the main pressurized parts in your engine. If a bearing goes bad you lose oil pressure. It's possible that your engine was running hot. This will cause a bearing failure. Also. the noise may be a broken piston, but it's not likely. You could also have had a oil pump failure. This will destroy your bearings. There is a drive shaft for your oil pump. This may have broke. I'm sorry, but thats all I can tell you. Good luck to you.JessiePat_RI wrote:

I really do have a 2.9L V6 that's available :-). I decided to invest in a Jeep this winter instead of repairing my old BroncoII again. Come spring I'll have my first convertible :-D.

You said in your original post that the oil guage dropped below low. Man, you are one lucky sap. Now, if a car or truck does that again, pull over and shut it off. You may not get so lucky next time. I wonder how blue the bearings are. I wouldn't want to be the next owner of that truck. May be ok for a while, maybe not. Anyway, glad to hear everything turned out ok.

Ya never know. My old 4Runner blew a head gasket at about 60k miles (typical 3VZE engine) and the guys who did the work overtightened the filter. A couple days after I picked it up, I lost all oil presure due to the filter gasket failing and the engine siezed in about 2 seconds.. I figured the shop owed me a new engine.

Nope. New filter, refilled with oil and I drove it another 170k miles before I sold it this past September.
