'97 Tahoe No start Good fuel Good spark

I am a forklift mechanic, accustomed to on board diagnostics being built into the trucks. Also new to these groups. Have been searching them. Prior to this condition a service engine light illuminated in the middle of a 2 hour freeway trip, I rompped on it up a hill. no drivability problems. Light cleared after restart on return trip. Then a couple weeks later tough starting, Once it did start, Rough idle. Then would run, And start fine. Then repeat the symptoms a couple weeks later. Now cranks fine, Long cranks >15 seconds cranking will hesitate like wrong timing, Or piston coming up on High compression. Fuel- 62psi and holds. Spark- checked with induction timing light. Changed the Cap, Rotor, Sparkplugs. #1 plug hole will blow my finger off when cranked. I do Not have a Tech 1 Scan tool, But have pulled the codes with a lesser tool. I have a P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit Fault. And a P0306 Cyl. 6 Misfire detected.

2 days have been spent checking sensors Ohms and volts and fuses, None bad. I have access to Mitchell 1 On-line and have followed the basic testing as much as I can without the better Scan tool. Could module in distributer be bad? Something here isn't in sync. Last winter I completly went through the fuel system, Replacing pump, regulator, oil pressure switch, relay, connector and terminals at pump head. Any thoughts on this? don

I´m have the same problem with my 96 Tahoe 5.7Wortec exept for the fault codes. I dont get any faultcodes at all. The problem started with the engine knocking like to high ignition. It disapeared and car run normal for a couple of weeks and now i cant get the engine to start at all (sounds like to early ignition timing)

Did you find out your problem???

Anybody who have an idea??? I´ts not so easy to find a good Chevy mecanic here in Sweden.

i bet my money on timing.

I replaced my 4.3 engine and the new engine had a strange problem. The timing belt si streched, so the timing is slightly off. I changed it before putting it in. It donot know what kind of difference it will make when a car runs but, it might open the valves early or close early, or something.

Other possible problems might be timing of the ignition and extra fuel. if your injectors are gone bad and dump to much gas, it will refuse to run also. you will get gas smell at the tailpipe. It might help to push gass all the way to avoid it butdonot keep pressed when it fired up.

I got it running yesterday but not well. I´ts seam to be ignition timing because it knocks terrible. strange that i dont get any faultcodes at all. how is the timingadvance set on thise engines? What i found is one crancshaft position sensor and one sensor in the distributor housing. Any ideas on what fault it can be

Finaly i got my Tahoe running again. It was a real ridiculous fault I found out that i get ignition spark at several cylinders at the sime time (the ignition coil have to be real strong on chevy´s) to get that strong spark at so many cylinders. At 170000km im did a tune up with Accell parts and now at 205000km the distributor cap is faulty. I cant see any cracks or other fault on it but i put back the old original GM cap with 170000km on it and it works teriffic From now i onlu buy original GM parts
