It's my 2001 Chev Impala, 50K.
Just beginning a couple of weeks ago, I can hear some kind of noise like whistling in the front when stepping on gas to gain speed, especially on highways.
It indicates a big problem?
Thanks,
Simon

Loose air cleaner allowing air to draw through a small opening downstream of the air filter. Bad vacuum line allowing air to draw through an area that it shouldn't. Bad interior control (heat/AC) That is leaking vacuum through a bad connector. Air leak around the intake manifold that is causing the whistle.
If it is varying with speed ONLY- IE gets louder as the car gets faster BUT you let off and it doesn't change immediately, look for Bad tire. Loose piece of body/window trim. Loose trim/seals around side windows.
