Is Honda's Dual Pump fluid fine for older cars?

If you are refering to the Honda branded transmission fluid, I changed from Dextron ll at 95,000 mi. I have a 90 Accord. That was a week ago and it seems to shift more smoothly. I had to change shops and they put it in with out even asking. They said Honda recomended it.

I should clarify. I hadn't had any shifting problems during the first 239,000 miles( which I passed around a month ago) but I've lost power twice in the last three weeks and it has me concerned. If I move the shifter around it eventually comes out of it and I'm good to go. With Honda's extra lubricants I'm hoping these episodes will cease.

Dual Pump Fluid is for the Rear Differential of the CR-V and the Element and the HR-V. You need Honda Z1 ATF.

Not sure why you used Dexron (I'd be curious to see a Honda factory manual that says you can use Dexron for anything other than TEMPORARY service).

You'll find a big difference when you drain-n-fill your '88 twice, or more, with Honda Z1. It's the correct fluid for the job. It might even fix your problems, but I expect you've reamed out the friction surfaces because Dexron doesn't have the friction modifiers that a Honda tranny needs.

Thanks for the correction. I was getting the two mixed up since I also have a '98 CRV.

Like I said, the Honda Factory Service manual recommended Dexron at the time without any mention of a Honda fluid. I'm looking at it right now in my '88 Accord Service manual. It's right there in the maintenance section on page 4-

I plan to drain the fluid twice(in a week span) to get as much Honda ATF in there as possible.

My 15 tear old manual says Dextron ll for my 90 Accord but the mech said not any more and to use the Honda stuff.
