2002 Santa Fe, noise occasionally from engine

A grinding noise - sort of like a bearing going bad - seems to come from the right rear portion of the engine. It can be quite loud and then the next day will just quiet down completely. The only strange symptom besides the noise is the last time power steering fluid was leaking from the refill container. Seemed to be coming out the top. It did not leak much and the fluid level is still OK.

This has happened more than once and worry about something serious going on. Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Al Green __ Arold "Al" Green

Could be any number of things. The power steering fluid thing has me a little confused. Normally, the fluid being pushed out of the reservoir will only happen with repeated steering while the engine is not running. I'd recommend taking it in to be checked if you can be reasonably assured the noise will occur for the shop.

Can you describe the noise with an onomatopoeia (e.g., buzz, tick, knock, rumble, hum)? Does it occur more typically on a cold start?

Thanks for your response. A word to describe the noise is difficult. Sort of like a bearing in need of lubrication. Right now it is quiet. The power steering fluid symptom did not happen with the first noise event, but it seemed definitely related to the most recent. The level now is right at the minimum level. Does Hyundai require a special fluid? Thanks again, Al Green __ Arold "Al" Green

Your Santa Fe uses Dexron as power steering fluid.
