I just have to state this:I love my 1989 XJ 40!I reed this forum and every message is stating somekind of a problem. Thatswhy I wanted to say this. I love my XJ 40, its the best car I ever had, andthats NOT what I expected when I bought it 5 years ago. Its reliable, low ongas, awsome handlig, keeps the value, the trunk is huge without the spare(who needs that anyway) and the neighbors believe you are a millionare.Keep this in mind when reeding about all the problems on this forum. conditioning system, which simply does not get cold enough. I'm about to retrofit to R134a and hope the move will improve matters. Do you have any experience or views on Jaguar air conditioning please? I understand the Delanair MkIII system was fitted to saloons too.>

The Delanair system was very troublesome. In the early '902 Delanair was acquired by Valeo, who eventually lost the Jaguar business to Nippon Denson (vendor for the Lexus climate control system) with the launch of X300 and XK8. Not sure this has continued with the new XJ but Denso system is still used on XK. S & X Types use Visteon systems I believe.

A friend of mine is on the verge of buying a Jaguar S-type 2.5 V6. I don't think I like the shape as much as the XJ-S but a new car is a new car. It will smell fantastic and be gorgeous to ride in, I expect.

I note that it costs 'only' about £28,000 which seems a bargain compared to what the XJS 6-cylinder car would cost if it was still produced. And, moreover, the power output and 0-60 acceleration figures are not much different, especially if you have the manual gearbox. In other words, my friend will probably leave me standing if we ever have a race away from some traffic lights.

Was the technology just not there to extract proportionately greater performamce out of the 3.6/4.0 litre Jaguat engines? How come a mere 2.5 litre car is likely to show me up, especially when it has to overcome its catalytic convertors? And how come it's so cheap?
