Re: V8 Blow ups

The new 2004 XJ has Nikasil cylinder liners

I knew that was a load of twaddle...

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

The 4.2l V8 engine is an imporved version of the outstanding 4.0l V8 engine introduced in 1999. The engine has been uprated and improved to provide better performance, economy and refinement. Some of the improvements are listed below:

  • Quiet inlet manifold and new fuel system
  • Small pitch silent chains
  • Low noise alternators
  • Lubrication system upgrades
  • 11:1 compression ratio
  • Lighter weight pistons and stiffer connecting rods
  • Stainless steel tuned exhaust manifolds
  • Improved sealing, cooler and breather systems

The AJ-V8 is a water-cooled eight cylinder engine having the cylinders arranged in two planes in a 90 degree 'V' configuration. The crankshaft is supported by five main bearings. The two chain driven overhead camshafts per bank activate four valves per cylinder via direct acting bucket tappets. The engine interfaces to a cooling system with electric fan, returnless fuel system and three way catalyst exhaust system. The cylinder liners are cast steel.

NOTE THE LAST SENTENCE !!!!

In future, I suggest you check and verify your 'facts' before posting something you heard down the pub as one!

It's the same process that G.M. used years ago on the Chevette engine. It was a colossal failure.
