The muscle car era wasn't 1985, currently they share the same LS1 engine, same 6 speed tranny, same chassis, sure there was more variation in the 80's but just look at them, same platform... lots of parts that are the same.

Remember the first time GM put Chevrolet engines in Buicks and Pontiacs because of a shortage? S*it hit the fan after that.

I thought the first big flap was putting the Chev 350 blocks into the Olds when they ran out. There was a big class action lawsuit from it, mostly based on the old Oldsmobile advertising for their "positive valve rotation" that was claimed to prolong the life of engine valves compared to engines without it. I too have had "family cars". A very nice 1966 Corvair Corsa turbo and a 1966 SS427 Impala taken to 466 cubes with 454 LS6 cam, headers, glasspacks, headers, airbag spring helpers, big fat Dunlop radials, etc. Not quite Addams Family, but all a struggling young missile defense contractor could afford.

Yep, Olds heavily advertised their "Rocket V-8" engines.
