dont get the wrong idea dave. if you can get an 87-90 iroc with the tpi 350 then you have one hell of a building platform for one mean street rod. its not that i dont like the iroc, im just not a big fan of the one you found. the 85 carb'd versions just didnt deserve the z28 badging.
I agree - sounds like the 5.7l is the one to go for. Over here they are as rare as hen's teeth, though. I might just save up a bit more and go for a later model, or perhaps the Pontiac Transam to which the Camaro seems suspiciously related .. or is it the other way round, who knows.

They are, they're basically the same cars for most of their history. GM = Chevy and Pontiac. They share chassis and engines in most cases interior bits and pieces of all sorts.

Weren't the Trans Am and the Camaro of the 70's/80's/90's based on the same platform?
very similar platforms from day 1, but didnt start sharing drivetrains until the 3rd generations came out in '82. prior to that, pontiac had their own engines/trannys that were nothing like gm's.
Was that the same model year as the independent rear suspension and speedometer cable drive?

Nah, it was my dad's. The Mercury Marquis/Ford LTD.
Right now I'm kinda looking for an early 70's Cadillac Deville convertible. Would make an awesome tow vehicle. I saw the Top 10 Used Tow Rigs article in one of the new mags, and even though it seemed to be a "tongue in cheek" portion (they also included a Peterbilt tractor) an old Caddy towing a Jeep just has a certain cool factor in my mind.
