86 cj7 vacuum question

Feb 26, 2004 1 Replies

Well, I am the happy owner of a new 1986 cj7, with the 258 motor. The previous owner completly disconnected the computer -- the wires running into the firewall are cut off flush. It looks to have a stock carter carb. Could someone here please describe to me how the vacuum lines should be run -- the minimum needed. Also, what needs to be plugged up. The previous owner has modified the vacuum system somewhat, and I want to check what he has done. The jeep runs good, but wants to stall in cold wet weather. Thanks for the help.

Hoo boy...

Ok, I have the minimal vacuum routing. I just have the PCV, EGR, air filter flaps and charcoal canister (gas tank and float vent) hooked up with no computer.

Here is a decent link on the computer modification and the vacuum routing on the 258.

Have a look there and if you have questions, just ask.

Running bad when wet implies a dirty distributor cap and rotor to me.
