Aftermarket Fenders

Hey Jeepers-

My '95 YJ is in dire need of both front fenders as the calcium/salt that DOT uses in Maine during the winter months has rusted them out quite badly.

Anyway, my Jeep will not take an inspection sticker this fall without replacement (the 2 quotes I have for repair are WAY more than I want to spend).

I was just wondering if anyone has used aftermarket fenders like those found in the the standard Jeep catalogs and any opinion on what to buy or avoid. I tried going the E-Bay route with buying used OEM fenders, but it turned into a horror show...

I was kind of hoping to buy them ready to bolt on (i.e., not having to paint or make any modifications).

Any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks!

Kevin

How much does your local suppliers charge for them?

The fender itself tends to be cheap, its the freakin labor to remove, paint, install, etc. that tends to run up any cost.

Dunno where Mopar gets them, but a new, Mopar front fender for a 95 ZJ is well under $200 bucks.

Had to chase that damn parking post clear across the lot, but I got it a good one, yes I did.

Tubes. Lots of places have them in various styles and you don't have to paint them.

Uh, he wasn't asking about _bumpers_, he was asking about _fenders_.

I found fenders on E-bay that are pre-painted to match a YJ:

Approximately $300 (with shipping).

I haven't checked with local suppliers of Jeep parts, as off-road shops tend to be far-and-few between in Maine, and most of them are likely going to order the stuff from the same catalogs I'd use. I've tried a few local auto junk yards and used parts dealers, but most fenders from the YJ era suffer the same rust problems as mine...

Bill, thanks for the links, that's probably the route I'll go.

I guess more than anything, I was hoping for someone to chime in with their experiences with using aftermarket body parts. Although parts are advertised as "EXACT FIT", I have found there is always some additional mod that need to be made to make the part usable... :o)

fenders, bumpers,

.doh.

missed it by > < that much. At least it was the same end of the jeep. :)

CPD still works for collision parts.

But there is no way around painting unless you luck into a junkyard part in the right color.

140 bucks for a mopar fender. Work to install cheapcrap would be worth more than that to me.

I don't know how they are these days but in the past LKQ parts werenot a reliable replacement for OEM. They generally didn't line right up and usually had some sort of issues.

If you look long and hard you might get lucky enough to find some used that are already the right color.

Have you checked any of the other forums? Lots of us take off our OEM fenders and put tubes on. It's something you should consider.
