Optima make two deep cell ones. They more common yellow one for winching and the blue marine one.

I also have a hand throttle in mine to keep the revs up while winching.

I just bought a decent new regular one for the Cherokee and took the Optima out of it to replace the dead one in the CJ7.

I 'only' bought these Optima's because the Jeep shop point blank lied to me and told me they had a lifetime warranty.

I asked about the paperwork and he said, 'ah no worries if it ever dies just bring it back for a free new one'. Ya right....

I also believed him when he said his air gun was 'just right' for tightening down the replacement pinion he put in. The now shattered bearings just came out in pieces a couple days ago.

As a note... Parts Source Canadian Tire. Same company, same lack of quality auto parts. I can't even begin to tell you how often their computers list the wrong parts -- or the parts themselves simply do not fit, or don't even meet let alone exceed the original OEM specifications. Be very very wary about purchasing any automotive parts from them that could result in you walking.

And if you plan on putting a winch on your Jeep DON'T put one of their batteries in your Jeep.. I had not one but two fail as a direct result of normal winch use, one just cracked and leaked, the other exploded and left one hell of a mess under the hood... The one that exploded was only a few weeks old and did so when I spooled out a few feet of cable with no load on it..there is simply no reason why it should have failed like it did.

I have always liked interstate batteries. I only bought an optima because I got it at Costco for $90 us. KH

Batteries produce explosive gasses. Perhaps it was your faulty winch wiring that ignited it.

I belive in this case that faulty wiring can be ruled out with very little debate. I'm pretty confident that I can say with out a doubt that my winch has been wired up to a standard above and beyond anything that most anyone here has.

The problem was %100 the batteries in question.

And I'd say your wrong.

The Warn HS9500 FLA is only 425amps, not 600.. Under a no load condition which is when the batteries failed that value drops to under

50.. Not to mention my winch is fused well below FLA.

A draw of under 50a is well within the ability of a 1000CCA battery to deliver.. Considering in both instances the hood was open, and more then adiquate ventalation was availible, assuming the gusting winds were not just imagined during the heat of the moment...

Mastercraft batteries have a known history of failure..

Oh wait, maybe it's just because it's not a real jeep right?
