buying a 95 JGC this weekend-need advice.

Unless the dealer tries to pull a fast one on me at the last minute, chances are I'm getting a 95 JGC Laredo this weekend. Vehicle has 150k km on it, fully loaded with leather seats, tow kit etc

Besides a regular (thanks again) for pointing out the possible AC troubles and to look for signs of water damage on the driver's side floor, any other suggestions, recommendations or advice to offer?

I know these vehicles are considered gas guzzlers, and it would be more economical to get a European car, but I can't explain it, I have my mind set on a Jeep. How many liters/gallons does the gas tank hold? and how much mileage (highway and city) should I expect from it per tank?

thx again for all your help

The '95 JGC has a 23 gal fuel tank. Edmunds rates the I-6 with auto at 15mpg city/20 mpg country. Our '93 was rated at 14/18 on the sticker. We consistently get 20 mpg on the road.

After it is good and warm, check the low range and 4wd just to make sure they are working and noise free. If the I-6, an aftermarket exhaust manifold is good news as it means it was already replaced. Check the A/C condensor for rust or a recent repaint to hide rust. With the engine not running, see what the serpentine belt looks like.

Fuel tank is 23 gallons or 87.4 liters. The I-6 runs about 14-15 mpg in town and 19-21 on the highway, the V8 is just a tad less.

How noise free can the transfer box be?.. the user handbook suggests that there will be a 'working noise'.. not quite sure how loud a 'working noise' is..

It should not sound harsh, grinding, howling, or in any way loud. It should in fact be silent. I dont hear mine when its in gear. KH

I've never really noticed any noise from the transfer case to speak of. The rear axle can make a sorta metallic whistling noise that is audible only at moderate speed [30-40 or lower] on quiet pavement.

My '94 is a little noisier in 4wd as opposed to 2wd.. more noticeable when

4wd first engaged.. as it warms up, the noise backs off.. on overrun, it is relatively quiet.. do I have a serious problem here?..
