What type of tool do you use to remove this wheel? The conventional steering wheel puller will not work. There is nothing flat to grab

You can use a regular gear puller or as I once did on a '43 GPW, a steering wheel puller with some metal plates attached to the bolts below the spokes.

Good point about the wood blocks, helps to protect the horn button contact which is vulnerable.
