Could someone show me an example of Tunnel Rebuilding on CJ

I'm re-thinking the idea of a body lift for my project. My Dana 300 is clocked up and I would need to re-do part of my tranny tunnel and passenger seat mount. I'd like to see some examples of what I'd be in for or shortcut or tips.

Thanks!

Come on now Bill, I KNOW you have a link somewhere....

How much clearance ya think I need? I have new urathane motor and tranny mounts...

I don't mind doing this, but one of the seat mounts is in the way...

I am curious as to why you clocked the T-case up so far?

Mine has a heavy skid plate on it and I think having it below the frame is a good thing for only getting a little hung when high centered. If I am sitting on the skid plate it is an easy slide off, if my frame rails were involved, I could be hooked...

No-no, the tub is unpainted and it's easy for me to flip it alone. I just need to see an example of how the seat mount was delt with.

Cause I could. I also have a large thick piece of sheet aluminum to make a skid plate out of.

Umm... "because you could" doesn't seem to have happened yet.... ;-)

Do you run places that high center you a lot? My 86 CJ7 has a massive skid plate under the t-case and one under the oil pan. If I can clear the oil pan and front axle I never hit the center. Well, in 8 years or so of owning it, the skid plate still has no dings.

It 'does' have some slide marks from sliding over snow banks and mud berms when it does it's job. If it were up higher, then the front of my gas tank would be open for a hit or a hook and if it is above the frame rails, well I can see some major hooking about to happen there too.

In the mountains of Mexico, one never knows.

Yup, sure do and I have one inverted U shaped drag link rod to prove it. Just on our trails, if I can clear the front axle, I can clear everything..... Or when I do come down hard in the middle, I guess I am going slow enough not to rip it up or it is mostly stumps and logs I have to watch for or all of the above.

Hidden stumps seem to do more damage though..... On our fall run I hooked a stump on the rear spring anchor and cracked the frame just in front of it.

What are you doing with that thing Mike, I've nailed my skid twice and it's only been on the road for a year, or should I say off road, are there no rocks on that coast?

Opening my big yap is likely going to mean my skid plate is going to catch hell next trip eh.....

I have this funky rock catcher up front. It is called a drag link arm. My newest one lasted a week. The next one I am having made with removable ends and a guarantee I can jack the Jeep up on it with no damage.

I am in southern Ontario and the trails are mostly woods or I just have a good eye for line or I just haven't found anything rocky enough to smash things up on or I just have enough clearance?

I do get into some serious torque situations and explode hubs on a regular basis (grin) and tear off engine mounts and snap frames so I guess the skid plate is the least of my worries....

LOL!

My wife and I just spent 4 days over last weekend out in the deep bush due south east of Bancroft last weekend. Half way between Bancroft and Bon Echo Park. We were camped 25 miles from the nearest house or phone and it stayed at freakin' 0 F the whole time!

It was freaking COLD!!! The beer went ice if you didn't hold them and the hands were too cold to hold so they had to be in an inside pocket. The olive oil was hard so you spread it like butter and I took a hammer and screw driver to the butter and it was like pounding it into a

2x4.... We had a hunt camp with a wood cook stove instead of the usual one with an air tight heater stove. It took 3 days to get the snow on the floor to go away.... Cold.........

That is where we wheel and I sponsor lots of rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys off road bush runs that happen in that area. I will post the links to the RAMJ+W Canadian runs at the end of this post. They are at Sony's Imagestation that used to be open to public, now they want folks to join which is free and they at least don't spam.

My drag link rock catcher works out there but stumps and wood is really more of a hazard than the rocks because I can see the rocks and I normally miss them unlike the hidden stumps....
