cutting diamond plating

Oct 12, 2003 11 Replies

Anyone have any suggestions on cutting this stuff? It's 1/8 of an inch thick! I can cut it in a straight line probably but need to make a small curve. Picked up two very nice pieces for the rocker panels....15 bucks for both!!!

Dremel tool with tungsten carbide bit. Use a jig!!! This bit will cut stainless like butter.

I like that too. I just don't have a oxy. acet. unit yet.

Use a jigsaw with a good heavy duty cutting blade or use a reciprocating saw. Then take a file to smooth the edges up.

My 'glass tub came with 1/8" diamond plate sandwiched in the firewall for structure. I used my dremil tool with a fiberglass reinforced cut off wheel to make all the holes.

It worked great. Not real fast, but accurate and nice cuts.

plasma cutter. :) I'm still amazed how nice those things cut.

Similar cutoff disks are available for drills, which tend to be a bit faster than a Dremel for bulk cutting.

You must have rock solid hands or cheated and used some sort of brace.

I do have a larger wheel for the drill, but the dremil is more exacting.

And yes, I do have steady hands, but my long arms do come in handy to brace said hands.

Jig's Man. Cut your jig for your curve, etc. My hand's steady, but I still jig tight stuff.

You know, I am not using "jig" as a racist term. Please note, that is a term I was taught in wood shop. years and year ago.

That's what I call it and that's what the dictionary calls it too.

jig, n. A device for guiding a tool or for holding machine work in place.

Heck, you can dance to it also.

Or it can be up.
