Bill, Explorers were available with V8's, my wife's '98 explorer had a 5.0L.

Exploders have been available with V8's for years, 5.0, 4.9 and now the 4.6. The current version needs one, too heavy to pass the "I-70" test with the OHC V-6. [1]

[1] Hop on I-70 west of Denver and try not to embarass yourself on the upgrades.
