Help with hood removal

Should come out with no problem. Nothing special to removing them. Try soaking them down with PB Blaster from under the hood and let them sit for a few hours or days whichever you prefer. If that don't work, then you have no choice but to drill them out.

Well don't let a lousy torx bit stop you... it will be the first of many broken and/or galled out torx bits. Doors are the worst... the Hood and windshield hinges are easy.

Try a set of bits made from high carbon steel, In other words buy a different set every time you break one (you'll go through a lot of T40 and 50 bits). Until you find a brand that holds up well. Some brands are harder and last longer. I had good luck with "security torx" or tamper proof torx bits... I think because they have a hole in them they are made of harder steel to meet their design specs for shear strength. This means they might break just as easy... but at least the teeth wont deform... which was the biggest problem I had on my 88 YJ.

Don't go drilling anything out until you've stripped the torx hole. There are too many weld nuts to get drill happy unless you like re-tapping weld nuts (possibly busting them free of the weld) and then finding new larger bolts that don't look out of place with your hinges.

had to, just had to, my brother told me that years ago. I still have to open my own beers sometimes - dang it.

Thanks for the tips. I tired most of them but the best was just waiting a little longer (a day) for everything to get really soaked. Two bolts turn out to be tougher than all the rest. Both really rusted. Let the build continue! Thanks to all.

Most of them are thread sealed with a heat activated sealer. You need to heat them up well with a torch to make them move.
