At least you got it nailed under a controlled situation.
I have been messing around with old beaters since the 60's and have seen just about every fix that can be done wrong at one time or another.
I have even seen a rod tossed out the side of an old Honda or Datsun that had the hole in the block fixed with 'liquid aluminum' good enough he raced it again and it held...
