I went to Tellico a while back after which I noticed that my steering wheel "where you rest your thumb part of the steering wheel" is no longer perfectly horzontal like it used to be. Even when I am driving in a straight line. Does this mean I need an alignment? there are no other noticable changes including tire wear.

While a bent tie-rod is a common cause of this problem, the draglink is also known for bending which will also cause the steering wheel to be off. The draglink is what connects the steering box via the Pitman arm to the tierod.

As new springs get worked in or in the case of crappy ones, sag in, the steering wheel will turn and the drag link will need adjusting again.
