The key words in your message are "engine/trans are shot." That's why it's $3k US. To me, those would be fatal flaws putting it in the "rustbucket/junk" category. But then again, that's because no one in my family has the skills to transplant a new engine and transmission, so that's a big factor to me - and is why we bought an extremely well preserved one that needed minimal work. If, unlike me, you can do that work yourself, go for it and save the bucks.

fibreglass rot ... snaps in an accident ... fewer places to ground stuff to .. never quite looks right imo (not that that matters too much).
