Mike or Bill or ane else wanna spell it out......

For a CJ5 with 258/T150/D20

I want to change to 258/T5/D300.

Here it is. Do I need a bellhousing? ....adapter?

I know the D300 lines with my axles. I am just researching this in earnest, but plan the project in the next 60 days or so.

Anyone?????

Thanks In Advance

Sorry Bill, I meant this to go here, hit the wrong button.

Here it is again...

It is a 1977 CJ 5. It is a T150, I think that means it's a Tremec. The low gear is nothing special in it, and the fact that it is a 3 speed is a royal PITA on the highway. So, yes, your right, the overdrive is a major consideration. There is nothing wrong with the three speed actually, I am really looking for a bit more top end with lower rpm.

I have need of long highway drives (800mi) every other month or so, and don't like feeling like I have her wound tighter than a watch spring for that many hours.

But I decided to indulge my childish nature and therefore refuse to give up my Jeep.

I am still open to ideas or suggestions at this early stage.

It should just fit right in if you get the Jeep T-5.

One trans that you might want to consider is the bullet-proof NP435. This is a cast iron unit that is almost impossible to destroy. I drug mine behind the motorhome with some of the levers in the wrong positions, and smoked the synchros for 3rd and 4th. I bought a small box of parts and did the repairs myself. A lesser unit would have a total melt down under the same conditions.

This is a 4-spd model that has a low gear of 6.69:1. This very low gear is useful for all sorts of things - pulling your house off of its foundation, getting out and walking while your Jeep idles along beside you, etc. It will bolt directly to the bell housing, but needs an adaptor plate between it and the D300 tcase.

Try Novac Adaptors and Advance Adaptors on the Web for more information.
