Monster Sound System?

Yes it has been done. I haven't done it yet. Probably will once I get it paid off and finish rebuiling my CJ.

Instead of putting a sub in the spare tire you might consider something like this:

If your after a high quality system start with scrapping every thing in there including the stock head unit.

As for what can fit, that all depends on your budget. Your first best step is to go visit a local car audio store (not walmart/bestbuy, a real store) and ask to see the brag-book.

Never had enough time to accumulate points for a national. :( Came close in 94 though, then they changed the CD and power splits so it wasn't worth competing. Still enter shows every now and then just to let people see what can be done.

Nothing like taking the interior back to metal just to lay down sound insulation. Can't stand the rattleboxes that kids run these days.

It's still fun to crank up bagpipe music or some country/western just to watch the expressions. :D

And yes, I wear hearing protection when maxing out.

Still find myself looking at the 1KW amps and thinking about how much fun it would be to fit those into the ZJ. Just remove the back seat to hold forklift batteries... eep!

That's why I went with a "stealth" install. Except for the sub box you can't tell it's any thing more than a higher end head unit. The seats also had locks (drilled out since I misplaced the keys)

They don't, it is vehicle only unless you add on coverage. Used to be anything bolted down was covered.

I have a Futaba 7 channel radio for my RC tank and porche. :) Too bad the FCC yanked the band I need and the radio can't be recrystalized. (old analog) That and the batteries have long since barfed.

Never got into tanks, Every once and awhile I will take them down off the shelf, dust them off, charge up the batteries, stock up the AA batteries from every source in the house and go out and have fun with my machines. Big Bear, Porsche 959 awd, original Grasshopper, and a Grasshopper based 32 Ford Delivery street rod. Only pain is I only have to radio systems..

Funny you should ask. I posted the same thing last spring. I wanted a sub enclosure for the "hole" in back of the wheelwell on the pasenger side. I got a reply from a guy in CA. that had just that.He traded in his 99 xj and bought a GC and couldn't use it anymore. I installed a Soundstream USA 305 (the old made in USA soundstream) 5 ch amp under the back seat, with a cooling fan. it gets pretty hot in the summer. The USA 305 is 35wx4 + 100w x1 at 4 ohms or 50x4 = 160x1.The sub is a MTX 10" in a fiberglass encloser that is gray carpeted to match. It dosent take up any space and is even with the wheelwell. Infinity reference 6.5's in the roof spk. bar, and Eclipse 5-1/4 componet in the front. I mounted the tweeters on the post and the crossovers under the dash. It cranks! Nothing too outragous but cleen! If you want some pix email me.
