There are 6 outer bolts around the rim of the hub, do I just remove these? Are there any springs or what not waiting to unravel and is it hard to put back together?

They just unbolt and bolt back on.
If it is a manual locker it 'could' have a spring inside if the insides have fallen apart, otherwise the spring is retained.
Why are you unbolting them?

My 6 bolt manual hubs have a loose spring, but with very little pressure. Then there will be a snap ring to remove, the back of the hub, and a large nut held tight by a bent washer (assuming you are breaking it down to the spindle).
