I found a nice 2022 Jeep Willys with only 21000 miles on it. Damn thing looks brand new. Fun to drive. Ordered Blue Ox TOAD baseplate and wiring harness today. I already have the tow bar and Patriot brake, so a couple days to install this hardware and wiring and it should be good to go behind my RV. Very happy with the purchase.
This is what it looked like when I purchased it. It had a brush and grill guard on it that at first I didn't like, but I kind of got used to it. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep it on after installing the flat towing baseplate. Probably give it away if I find someone local who wants it.
Here is what the front looks like after the towing base plate install. I did the install and the wiring myself, and it was a pretty clean install. Got all the wiring inside the frame rails so I don't have to worry about wiring getting scraped up under the body. Also installed a
12 gauge wire with a fuse to go to the battery coming off the power prong on the umbilical from the RV. Even with the Canbus system Mercedes uses, it still kept the battery fully charged when towing using and electric brake, so I don't have to install a DC charger in the Jeep.Here's the first test tow with my F-150. Pulls nice and everything worked as planned.
This is the final result. Pulled it down to the Alabama Shores and back with my Winnebago View. At about 4,000 lbs, it is much easier to pull than my 5,000 lb Bronco. Easy to get around with this short 2 door, and really quite fun to drive.
