Rear Hub Problem

Oct 08, 2005 4 Replies

Hi All, I had my '94 XJ up on a hoist the other day checking something out and I happened to also check the rear hubs . There seems to be an awful lot of "float" in and out on the axle approximately 2 -3 mm.whats the problem , can anyone help with a diagnosis.

Thanks in advance. Neil in New Zealand '94 XJ Jeep '74 XY Ford Falcon Station Wagon

Thanks for the info Bill, You're a fount of great knowledge. My mate who was with me at the time was worried that the axles whould fall out.

They will, if the c-clip breaks or pops out. But, even better, when the axle on a D35 snaps the whole shebang will slide out, usually when you're out somewher a long way from home...gotta love the cynical bastard that designed the D35!

Only 2 ~ 3 mm of end play. That's good. My CJ has about a 1/4 inch on one side.
