Strange intermitent starting issue

Nov 22, 2003 4 Replies

Sometimes, when I start my jeep, if it doesn't start the first time the second time cranks but balks right in the middle and then continues to turn over and starts. When this happens I loose all my radio settings like the battery cable has been disconnected. This also happened one evening and I believe I saw a flash coming from under my jeep. I can't recreate the problem at will.

Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Thanks,

Bill

I had this problem on a wrangler. The starter was replaced, but that was not the cure. It turned out to be the distributor. Oil was comeing up the shaft and changing the timing. I replaced the dist. and retimed it with a light. No more problem

What is the year/model of your Jeep and what is the condition/age of the battery cables?

Jeep is an 83 CJ7. Battery is new and one of the cables is new. The other is good.
