What is this thing?

Looks like some old jeepoid with a soft top and a red wastebasket grafted to the right rear. Picture just low enough resolution can't get the logo or the lettering on right side to sharpen up.

This one is really sweet! I have seen these from time to time and they really are cool in person. Seems like most of them are 2wd, pity. They go by on eBay every so often, ones in this shape go $10,000 or better. Hope the owner knows what they have got there.

An open touring car, often with a convertible top. A "Dual cowl phaeton" had a panel between seats, and sometimes a windshield for the rear seat too. Check out the 11th car down on this link.

They were ALL originally 2wd. There's no such thing as a stock 4wd Jeepster VJ (that's the actual model name). They were all made between

1947 and 1949 with some excess stock being re-titled by dealers and sold as 1950 models. It's a pity some people make them into 4wd's and beat them to snot. They were never intended to be trucks and they don't hold up to the stress well when used as one. They're cars made by Willys, no better suited to 4wd that a Willys Aero coupe. Call the guys at Willys America some time and tell them you want to turn a VJ into a 4wd sometime. Prepare to get your ear bent real hard. ;)

Cheers, - Jeff G
