Mondeo Tyre Wear / Is this a suspension problem ?

On the Mondeo, this requires the subframe to be disturbed and it needs to be realigned on assembly. Not all garages have the equipment to do this.

This is a fairly common problem and will cause steering pull and uneven tyre wear. If the car has had a new clutch I would make this my first line of investigation.

It's a common problem with Mondeos - don't know if it's the front wishbone type things or rear trailing arm type things. In fact I don't know an awful lot, but I know that it is a common problem with Mondeos. Do a google search.

That's a bit harsh and it's making several assumptions.

It may be that the original poster has just bought the car or doesn't belong to him.

You might have several problems with a car that age - or maybe only one if the wheels have been moved from font - back and side-side.

I'm not sure how the Mondeo works, but certainly in cars in the past I have found that suspension bushes can cause uneven wear etc. as they start to get tired (no pun intended) which might well be the case for your vehicle - I have had this on the front, and a replacment can work wonders (Cavaleir @

On the rear there might be a similar problem, plus any other items shown in the other posts.

Have you had a look at the tyre for yourself?

The reason I ask is that sometimes tyre depots (some in particular) can overstate the case.

Also - do you know if the rear tyre that was unevenly worn, was moved to there from the front? (or, indeed, the other way around). eg if there had been a problem with front wheel alignement, and the front wheels were moved to the back, you might be fooled into thinking that the rear was faulty

I check the unit tyres daily and the trailer tyres whenever I hook one up. My car tyres get a weekly.

Even more reason to check the tyres. Yesterday I went with the wife to look at a new car for her. I checked the tyres on that. Because of that I knew the front/rear suspension and tracking was OK although they only had a couple of mm left on them so negociated a few quid off the price.

Heh; good point. I'd have had it changed at the Ford dealership, though...

My 96 TD didn't until I put the new Continental spare on the front with a half worn Firestone on the other side. It dived for the left then even with correct pressures. Another new Continental on the front sorted it!

They don't seem to like odd front tyres, but then again neither do I !

Yes I do check the tyres, but unfortunately I don't get my microscope out every day to check them like Conor. However, the front one wearing on the "inside" did catch me out.

I have taken the car to a garage today to check out the sub-frame / alignment. They did not think that there was any rear suspension problem just natural tyre wear.

Once they have done this I will have new tyres on all round and will keep a close eye on them.

Oh for gods sake man. you don't need to get a fecking microscope out. The inside would've started wearing down WEEKS before it got to the point that wire started showing through.

I'm not the one who'll be putting other road users lives in danger from using dodgy tyres.
