86 cj7. they keep loosening up on me and I was wondering what I should torque them to? carmineDepending on how hard you are hitting the ground when you are bouncing up something, grade 8 bolts won't last long in my opinion.
They are too hard and are likely to shear.
Well, I keep shearing grade 5 ones even. We drive on really dug out and rutty stuff on steep angles with the pedal to the metal and when you get wheel hop, you can get a serious hit on those bolts. The last set I put in were just regular bolts and I cleaned the crap out of the holes before using loctite on them. So far so good, they have held for over a year but I haven't off roaded seriously in 6 months... :-(
The torque is 30 ft lb in a criss cross pattern on them.
