Actually I use a lot of the stuff and a lot of antiseize compound. Both will keep the salt off the threads.

Thanks Mort... I can see it now;

Clerk: "That'll be $8.75 plus tax" Me: "$8.75??? It's around $7.50 in other locations!!!" Clerk: "NO PB BLASTER FOR YOU, GET OUT OF MY STORE!!" Me: "friggin' PB Nazi"

Hey Mort, Picked up some PB today from the Clark Rd. store. $6.40 for 12oz can. Bought some other items as well, the Manager (Mike Overholt) was VERY helpful and I think he was giving me trade prices.

4 cans of PB 5 recip-saw metal blades 1 4.5" cutting disc 1 chipping (welding) hammer Just over $60 tax included.

This was a much better experience than my first visit... I was getting the "if you have to ask how much it is...." type of attitude and I think the guy was making up prices on-the-fly. With Mike, I'd ask for a price and he'd ask "how many?".

Thanks for mentioning Fastenal, I'll be shopping there more often.

Not a problem. The pricing structures changed in the summer/fall so it's more uniform now. I'm glad you're happy. If you ever want to buy something pricey there let me know and I can tell you what range you should be paying.

Hi Brian - I went through this a couple of years ago, with about the same struggle you had. Finally sawed partway through one section of the hinge in a spot where the weight of the door wouldn't cause problems, drove a chisel into the sawcut, and got the remains of the pin out. However, I could *not* get the factory hinge pin set to install properly, even in a hinge which I didn't use the saw on - there's a sort of plastic or wire mesh sleeve included, which I demolish trying to insert it, and without it, there's too much clearance between the pin and the bushings. But! What I wound up using was even cheaper (versus welding on whole new hinges - why would you buy a new hinge assembly, when all you need is a pin?) - steel roll pins (spring pins)! Can't recall the length and diameter offhand, but that's what was in there before I started the job, and that's what was in there when I finished. Cost = about $2 at Canadian Tire. Been working just fine ever since.
