2001 Kia Optima Timing belt

This is an update to my post yesterday about what I thought could be a fuel pump problem. My timing belt has pieces coming off of it and one piece slipped near a sensor or something and caused my car to stall. It started this morning (a day and a half after it stalled) because the piece that was blocking the sensor had fallen away.

According to the guy at the dealership and the maintenance schedule, the timing belt is to be replaced at 60K but Kia has started recommending that it be replaced at 50K (because apparently it's happening to quite a few cars and of course I had no idea about the new recommendation--never got a notice), my car has 50918 miles on it and fortunately for me, the dealership is going to make the warranty cover it.

I thought I would pass along this info in case someone else finds themselves in the same position--if your timing belt falls apart before

60K miles and your dealer tries telling you that you need to replace it, it should still be covered under warranty.

Happy to hear the dealer is taking care of the failing belt. Hope all will be good running from now on.
