Sephia 2000 poor fuel economy

I have a typical 2000 Kia Sephia; 4 Cyl, Auto Transmission; 40,000 miles. I have been extremely disappointed with the fuel economy ever since I purchased the vehicle, new.. Highway driving at 60 to 70, around 24 mpg. This is maybe 1 mpg more than I get with my 95 V6 Honda Accord. Of course, Kia will offer no relief for this.



I live in Florida, so the AC is on constantly, and am wondering if this can really suck down the mileage. I've been wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. From what I've read, my situation seems atypical. Are there any checks (other than making sure the air cleaner and spark plugs are replaced) or injector mods that could improve this mileage.

Using the a/c drains a significant amount of power from this engine.

Also, Honda vehicles are particularly known for their good gas mileage.

Furthermore, 60 to 70 mph may be enough to significantly reduce your highway mpg. Some cars do well at these speeds, but others don't do well over 55 mph. I don't know about your car in particular.

I would hope for more than 24 mpg out of a 1.8L engine, maybe more around

27 with an automatic, but 24 isn't really horrendously out of line, either.
