Spectra '02 water pump problem

Mar 18, 2005 3 Replies

Took Spectra into Kia service department to have timing belts replaced Tuesday. Car was at 64000 miles. I get it back and it starts making noises. Took it back to dealer and they said the water pump is now going out and it is purely cooincidental that it happened right after they worked on it. Never had any problems with the car before they had it. Was wondering if I could get some water pump feedback from other Spectra owners...when they went out and if the dealers story seems at all fishy. I'm looking at another 300$ part right after giving them

500$ to replace the belts. Thank you in advance.

They should have replaced it when they did the belt. The norm for replacing the timing belt is, Replace the timing belt, Idler pulleys, water pump & gasket, and engine belts... That all should have been done together...
