4.6 HSE Exhaust

Feb 19, 2006 6 Replies

Ok, the clattering is getting worse and after checking, the O/S Cat has seen better days and rumbling around in its box. So, I need to replace the Y section down pipe including cats.

Having a nose around, I thought for not too much more money an RPI stainless system was interesting.....

Anyone installed one of these systems or are there any other options available?

I fitted a Rimmer Bros system to a 4.6, but only the bit from cats to tailpipe. Good quality, fitted well, no problems. Would recommend them.

I had Longlife cut one of their own cats into my 3.9 Disco a while back to solve the same problem. Cheap, and worked a treat!

if you want ordinary mild steel.

Note, I've never actually bought from them. Nor have I compared the prices with Paddock, if Paddock supply the ones you want.

Looking for recommendations for a decent exhaust.

Got to sound nice, and probably be stainless. May go for de-cat pipes, as it has just been tested, so can use it like that for almost a year!

On my old 3.9VSE, I had a standard exhaust, with the exception of the backbox, which was pipercross** and it sounded bloody gorgeous. Looking for something to give a similar throaty roar at low revs, with a nice howl when giving it some boot!

(aint even got the bloody thing home yet, and I'm already modifying it!)

**not through choice, I ripped the backbox off while on a trial ('non damaging' RTV my arse!) and happened to find the pipercross one lying around the garage, so it got stuck on!

After some checking of the Credit card status and much searching the inter-web.......

Looks like a replacement 'standard' Y pipe with cats and a Rimmer cat-back stainless system with twin tail pipes, looks stunning and, apparently, sounds superb!!!!!

Looked at RPI complete system, but, the price......OUCH!!!

I bought the twin large bore stainless system last summer; it is excellent and guaranteed for life. The sound is great and it looks fine but in its new state it was a little too 'bling' Vauxhall Nova boy racer for me. I bought some black high temperature spray paint and painted the highly polished bits black which toned it down nicely.

Despite the instructions stating that with an existing twin tail pipe system I wouldn't have to cut the plastic under the bumper, I did.

Cheers
