My LR specialist said don't bother unless it's serious. They are not easy or cheap to replace and they usually go again soon. For the same reason he said don't buy a recon box either - new is the only way to go and only then if it's costing you a shedfull for top-ups. After a while of topping up mine re-sealed itself anyway much to my amazement. TonyB
Top it up with semi-fluid grease. Mine's been full of it since it developed a bad leak a couple of years back - no leak now and it feels better lubricated than it ever has.
Cool. What sort of grease is that again? TonyB
LR one-shot Swivel grease seems to work just fine.
Alex
You can buy grease for putting in landrover front hubs. A lot of people seem to use that in steering boxes too. I plan to stick some in mine if it becomes much less oil-tight!
I get mine from the local Pennzoil distributor (which AIUI might be a problem in the UK). It's labelled 'Semi Fluid Grease' and is about the consistency of treacle - warm the bottle in boiling water and it will pour in ok.
Thanx TonyB
