Battery holder in defender 300Tdi

I have just had to replace the (nearly) 6 years old original equipment battery in my Defender.



When I fitted the new battery into its position, I could not get the OE battery clamp to hold it in place. The new battery, an Australian made Century brand, has a slight lip on the long edge which seems to prevent the piece of angle-iron from sitting squarely. and thus cannot be tightened adequately.



I will probably cut and drill a new (wider) piece of angle to fit.



Anyone have any ideas?

That works, buying the proper battery works better - Century weill have a listing that doesn't have the lip (aimed at the Euro vehicle market). I fit them regularly to LR's here in NZ.

Yeah, way to go, Scott... make up a new one. And why not go for a battery with guts!! The big "Overlander" battery here in Oz is higher and longer and wider ( got to be an 'actress and Bishop joke in there somewhere, I reckon !! :))) ) if you want to go for a bit of 'grunt' for the cold areas/morning starts , anyway. I reckon the little 'standard battery' ( and it's relatively weak ' stock-standard clamping) leaves a bit to be desired, so I fitted an 'Overlander' battery...... and made up a whole clamp assembly _easy_... ( So _anyone_ can! Heheheh ). ... frodo.

Thanks for the suggestions, in the end I just slipped a piece of 40mm X 40mm aluminium angle under the narrow piece of steel angle and the additional surface area is enough to hole everything in place nicely. Fingers crossed!.
