Battery/Starting Question

I am having trouble starting the 90, the voltmeter on the dash is showing just above the red and doesn't increase much when I manage to bump start her. Is it likely to be a battery issue or alternator related? It has been worse since an enthusiastic off-road session last week, I winched a lot so am thinking the battery could be shot but also waded pretty deep so could water have affected the alternator?

Deep wading might've got to the starter motor?

I know the starter is OK as it is trying to turn over and after a run it starts OK, either the battery isn't getting a good charge or is shot. Will get it tested.

within about 5 minutes after starting the voltmeter should be up to normal level.

However, a shagged battery can drag the voltage down, so it's not completely conclusive. If you don't run it a lot, then it tends to take a while to get the battery fully back to normal, I reckon.

Bring it round & I'll give it the once over with me multimeter.

It will be the battery I reckon.

Definitely an alternator, volts are around 9 across the battery and don't rise with engine running, the batt light is glowing dimly on tickover too. What sort of job is it to swap out?

It's a 15 minute job on a 300Tdi. Can't imagine the 200Tdi is much different.
