Bolt spinning on thread - Help!

Hi,

I've just been putting the timing cover back on the front of a 24v 2.25l petrol engine and all the bolts went on fine - except for the one in the middle that goes through the water pump as well as the timing cover in to the block.

This bolt went in about 5-8mm with minimal resistance then just started spinning on its thread - won't come out or go in.

Any ideas on how to get it out? or alternatively to get it fully in?

Tried filling the cooling sytem with water to see if the other bolts were enough to hold everything tight but its leaking through this bolt.

tried levering at it, and turning it while levering to try and get purchase, but its not easy as it's recessed into the cover. Next idea is to weld a long piece of metal to it and tug.

Help! Graham

Graham try putting a srewdriver blade BEHIND the back of the bolt head/washer, gently levering it outwards as you undo the bolt, it pick up the thread and back out( if there is any left) If it feels too tight you might find that being alloy and striped, it might need a helicoil putting in later!!!!
