19J seized water pump bolt

Slightly complicated story. My 1990 Defender 110 19J was recently swapped for a 200Tdi. I had no plans for the old engine, so I started stripping it and selling bits on ebay.

My son (like father like son :-) has just bought a 1989 Defender 90 truckcab with a dud engine (another 19J). We suspect a broken con rod.

So, what we plan to do is use his head on my block.

Now when taking off the water pump, two of the bolts sheared. One I have managed to get out by welding a nut on, the other is proving obstinate and there isn't enough stud proud to get a good weld.

Looking at the front of the engine, these bolts seem to pass all the way through the aluminium housing that I assume houses the timing belt.

So, is it possible to remove the rest of these bolts and remove the housing by passing it over this sheared bolt, that will then give me about 2" of bolt to play with!

Is this possible, what should I look out for (obviously marking the relative positions of the injector pump and pulley on TDC)

Cheers

Peter

Sounds feasible though I have never done it. You could then grind it off if it's really stubborn and drill and tap a new thread.

Why not sell bits from both lumps and put the money towards another 200 tdi?

You can drill part of it out of the ally case, enough to loosen it in the case, remove the case and have enough left to take it out of the block with mole grips. It won't be siezed in the block, that bit will come out easy.
