Wonder if anyone has experienced this same problem.
My brakes work good. But when I put the brakes on for the first time the pedal seems low. If I pump the pedal quickly, the pedal is much higher and maintains that height. If I let off the pedal for a few seconds then apply the brakes, it's low again. Just like there is air in the system.
I opened the bleeders at each caliper (it's a 99 Discovery with 4 wheel discs and Wabco ABS/Traction control). No air came out. Then I thought perhaps there was air in the caliper that couldn't get out due to the positioning of the bleeder screw ( ran into this on a old AMC years ago that used Ford calipers on a AMC spindle) so I removed each caliper and held the bleeder screw at the highest point. Still no air came out. Then I had a helper pump the pedal while I operated the bleeder screws so as to push a LOT of fluid through the system in case there might be air caught at a high spot in a line.
Still, the pedal is the same. Low on first hit, then high if you hit it again.
My thinking now is the Wabco unit may have some internal pistons that get compressed upon first application in anticipation of needed traction control.
