92 Landrover Discovery Series I 3.5l V8i
Like PJ my Disco won't start...12V at both sides of the coil and the ignition amplifier module was replaced, there is a black diode/pack in series with one side of the coil, suspect this is used as a high tech ballast..(this measures 6.67k ohms bit high some might think as with a coil resistance of 1 ohm only 0.001 A can flow..surely the coil and so on needs more current than that.)
Note: The timing lamp comes up on the dash and have retimed everything also have reverted back to the old ignition amp module (it worked). The rotor arm moves when cranking so suggests that hopefully the timing chain is not broken...
I haven't replaced the pickup sensor but it seems to be interrupted by the reluctors in the dizzy ok..meter is indicating fluctuations..possibly sus
FYI this vehicle was running fine all week with the new ignition amp module, Yesterday jacked the car up and replaced the front shocks as the RHS one had sheared the bottom thread and nut off..also scouring the bottom spring plate (for a later time).
Also my Mass Airflow Sensor has been degrading and now is officially stuffed..the hot wire element was sort of working and now measures as infinity and of course 0V diff out..temporarily bodgied with a
3.3k ohm resistor as this was the value measured a month ago..obviously not the right thing to do as the mixture will be right at only one point, however needs must..stuck in the outback and have a 80km trip to and from work...:-( Does anyone know of a cheap refurbisher of these units or where I can get the black plastic sensor elements ...one is the control diode for temperature and the other is the hotwire sensor (which looks like a wirewound resistor but with very thin wire and 1/8W style resistor package).
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
