Insa Turbo Remoulds

Ello!!

Has anyone used these before??

Ive got some BFG At's on at the moment, and there is a fair amount of tread left on them, but they just aint got the bite in the mud at the moment.

Insa do something called Dakar, which looks like a kinda BFG MT copy tread, or a Special track which looks fairly aggressive.

Anyone got any experience?

That's exactly why I swapped mine. The AFL unofficial in Norfolk showed me how rounded the edges had got. The new ones (We went BFG AT again) just bite and pull you up and out of ruts, the old ones dropped you into them ... ;)

Got over £100 for the old ones, even with two punctures, and the guy was well happy, so maybe you can get some money back by putting them on ebay before they're too worn for the road-only users. ;)

ISTR reading somewhere that the Insa tyres have a very soft tread that grips too well sometimes and can break half-shafts easily. I think, however, it was on a rock-crawling website, which is a bit specialised. Still wouldn't bode well for wear rates, IMHO.

You'd have to really be spinning the wheels something chronic though for that to happen, besides the landy half-shafts are like fuses, rather them than the rest of the drivetrain eh ;-) IIRC what snaps the shafts is spinning the wheel fast and it suddenly grips. On my first pinz outing a chap who'd just bought his first V8 landy snapped a shaft doing that.

ISTR an article about an early expedition (original range rover?) that went through gearboxes at a rate of knots plugging through a jungle, and eventually tracked it down to the dumper-truck tyres jarring the drivetrain so much that it caused premature wear.
