L-R chassis always and still made of steel?

I was told today of someone buying an "aluminum chassis frame" for a Land Rover ---- has such a thing ever been done and marketed? I assume the latest Defenders are still steel --- I'm wondering what this misinterpretation (if it is) comes from?

A replacement chassis for a stock landy, or a custom chassis for an off-road comp safari racer? If the latter then it's possible, aluminium chassis are used in competition racing cars and in some supercars.

Could it also have been "galvanised" with a touch of chinese whispers thrown in?
