Loud knocking

I don't know if anyone remembers my problem with my 93 RRVSE and the loud knocking/cracking noise, that seemed to be coming from the engine? Well, after months of postponing the inevitable I was forced by the failure of the vehicle to pass it's MOT, into spending a small fortune with a local garage to make it roadworthy again. During this process they discovered that the offside catalytic converter had disintigrated and this was the source of the horrendous noise. Cutting open the box and removing it's contents cured the problem, cost £60. To think, the last time I mentioned this problem I was negiotiating with a guy in Bristol for a replacement engine costing close to £1000.

What really irks me though is that my local Landrover expert thought it was the bearings on the crankshaft, causing the crank to move back and fore, that was the source of the racket. Whereas the local garage I ended up using, primarily a BMW/Mitsubishi dealership, found the actual fault on the first day. So much for specialists.

P.S. If anyone knows someone gullible enough to actually want to own a

93 RRVSE with air suspension and LPG conversion, please let me know. I would love to get rid of mine and never have anything to do with Landrover again.

Glad you got it sorted.

Sorry to here a dogie cat has put you off the Marque... but yes they can be expensive to own and maintain correctly and trustworthy mechanics are few and far between sadly. Cats and Mechanics are not something unique to Landrover though.
